FRLS (Flame Retardant Low Smoke) wires emit very low smoke and toxic gases during fire, making them mandatory for high-rise buildings, hospitals, hotels, and public spaces as per NBC 2016. ZHFR (Zero Halogen Flame Retardant) wires emit zero halogen gases and minimal smoke — the safest option for enclosed spaces like basements, data centres, server rooms, and metro tunnels. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) cables (IS 1554) are cost-effective, suitable for general purpose wiring up to 70°C conductor temperature. XLPE (Cross-Linked Polyethylene) cables (IS 7098) offer superior performance — higher current carrying capacity (90°C rated), better short circuit withstand (250°C), lower dielectric loss, and longer life. XLPE cables are recommended for industrial power distribution, underground installations, and HT applications. PVC cables are preferred for house wiring and light commercial use where cost is a priority.
